The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 293 PETIT, Norris L. PEACETIME Norris was born on April 7, 1934 in Duck Lake, SK. He joined the Army on January 10, 1952 and served as a Private with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He left the service on July 30, 1954. Norris married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. PETRAR, John WWII John was born in Dysart, Saskatchewan in 1923. He joined the Army in 1943, trained at Orillia and Camp Borden, and served in Canada as a Private with the Royal Canadian Army Corps. He was well known for cribbage playing and arm wrestling at the camp. Following his embarkation leave, he contracted German measles and was put in quarantine. Those who were not ill went overseas and John was left behind with his ill comrades. He was discharged in 1945. John has been a member of Lipton/Dysart Legion Branch 99 for thirty-five years. PHANEUF, Ernest WWI Ernest was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army, trained at Camp Hughes, and served with the 152nd Battalion before being sent overseas with the 5th Battalion. He was wounded and spent time in hospital but was killed in action in July 1918 after returning to the field. Ernest is buried in France in the Duisans British War Cemetery.
