The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 27 ATKINSON, Edward WWII & PEACETIME Edward was born in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan on March 24, 1926. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1943 and served on HMCS Petrolia during World War II. From 1947 to 1973, Edward served in telecommunications with the Air Force in Canada. A member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Sept Iles, Quebec and Lethbridge, Alberta for a number of years, Edward died on December 7, 1983. ATKINSON, John “Jack” WWI & WWII Jack was born in Barrow-in-Furness, England on May 16, 1891. He farmed before enlisting in the Army on December 15, 1915, as well as after WWI. Jack served with the 96th and 15th Overseas Battalions in Canada, England, France, and Belgium until his discharge in April 1919. He also served with the Veterans Guard of Canada from August 12, 1942 to April 17, 1945, after which he was employed with the provincial government. Jack was a member of Meadow Lake Legion Branch 76 before he passed away on July 14, 1975. ATKINSON, Marie WWI Marie was born in Hamar, Norway on February 23, 1892. She enlisted in the British Expeditionary Force’s Nursing Service on June 8, 1917 and served in England and France with #22 (Harvard) General Hospital. Marie was discharged on January 8, 1919 after which she farmed, was a housewife, and did many hours of volunteer nursing when called upon. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Meadow Lake Legion Branch 76 and Saskatoon Legion Branch 63. Marie passed away on January 13, 1980.
