The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 267 MUTLOW, Samuel J. “Sam” WWII Sam was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on August 28, 1916. He enlisted in Regina in August 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in the United Kingdom. Corporal Mutlow left the service at the HQ First Canadian Base Ordnance Depot in Regina in August 1945. Married with two sons and a daughter, Sam farmed and operated his own store as a rural merchant. He has been active in the United Church, as president of the local Board of Trade and enjoys baseball, hockey, fishing and hunting. MYERS, Arnold A. “Al” WWII Al was born on September 10, 1918 in Dunsford, ON and joined the RCAF in June 1940. He trained as a pilot, was a flying instructor, took coastal command training and was then posted to 45 Group Royal Air Force Transport Command before heading overseas to Prestwick, Scotland. In Sierra Leone, he served as flight commander and personal pilot to Air Vice Marshall Sir Ronald Graham, AOC of West Africa Coastal Command. Al left the service in Winnipeg in November 1945 as Flight Lieutenant and acting Squadron Leader. In 1946, he rejoined the RCAF auxiliary as commanding officer of 406 Light Bomber Squadron, was Group Captain and Commander of 23 Wing HQ from 1955-57 but stayed in the Reserves until 1970. Post-war, he served as Aide de Camp to Governor General Vincent Massey and four Lieutenant Governors of Saskatchewan. Al received the Canadian Forces Decoration, the King’s Commendation, the Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Medal and the Canadian Centennial Medal. He had two children with his wife, Betty Ball. Al has been active in The Legion and the Masonic order. NELSON, Edor WWII & SPECIAL DUTY AREA Edor was born in Clair, Saskatchewan in 1921. He joined the Army in 1942 and served as a Warrant Officer in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and the Provost Corps in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He left the service in 1946 but joined again to serve in Japan, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and Israel from 1950 to 1968. Edor died in 2004 and is buried in Cloverdale, British Columbia.
