He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Sergeant with 416 Squadron in Canada, England, France and Germany. Bernhard has been a member of Yorkton Legion Branch 77 and Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 in Manitoba. METCALF, Don WWII Don was born in Lumsden, Saskatchewan in 1915. He was an instructor in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served as a Sergeant in Canada during WWII. Don, a school teacher and grain buyer for P&H, was married. He has been a Life Member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for sixty-four years. He retired in Regina, Saskatchewan. MILANI, John WWII John was born on February 22, 1921 in Indian Head, SK. He joined the Canadian Artillery on August 1, 1940 and served in Canada and the United Kingdom with the 17th Field Regiment. He instructed at an artillery training centre until May 1944 when he was posted to HQ RCA of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division then he joined the 13th Field Regiment Artillery and served with them until VJ-Day. John was awarded the Croix de Guerre by the provisional French government for action in the Battle of the Falaise Gap. He returned to Canada in June 1945 to prepare for the Pacific theatre but when the war ended, he joined the regular Army on October 1, 1946 and served in Canada and Washington, U.S.A. during the Korean War (195051) and in India-Pakistan. Major Milani received the Canadian Forces Decoration and retired in 1967. Married with two sons, John has worked with the University of Saskatchewan since his retirement, has served on several boards and participated on committees and with various groups.
