The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 249 McMILLAN, Wallace Allen WWII Wallace was born in 1915 in Asquith, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England with 434 (or 424) Bomber Squadron during WWII. Wallace trained as a mechanic and was promoted to Corporal in May 1945 but ill health took its toll and he was discharged in February 1946. He returned home and farmed in Asquith with his wife Wilda and his three children. Wallace was a member of Asquith Legion Branch 326 for 48 years before he died in 1996. McMULLEN (nee COOMBES), Mae WWII Mae was born on March 29, 1923 in Tugaske, Saskatchewan. She trained as a teacher and taught briefly at Coyote Run Rural School near Moose Jaw. Mae then enlisted in Regina in May 1944 as a probationary WREN and was trained in signals work in Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Mae was stationed at HMCS Stadacona in Halifax until she left the service in Regina in November 1945 as a WREN Signal Woman. She married Stanley McMullen in 1946 and they had one son and one daughter. Mae was office manager of a retail car dealership in Moose Jaw before she retired and she remains active in bowling and tennis and has begun to play golf. Her husband Stanley is deceased. McNAB, Colin Donald WWII Colin was born in Asquith, Saskatchewan on April 27, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and did his basic training in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. He then served at Langara Island, British Columbia to build a road for defence purposes and Western Air Command in Vancouver. Colin was discharged in Winnipeg in 1946 and he lived in Kitimat for years before retiring in Asquith. He was a member of Kitimat Legion Branch 250 and Asquith Legion Branch 326 for a total of 52 years before he passed away on June 21, 2001.
