The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 243 McGONIGAL, William WWII & SPECIAL DUTY AREA William was born in 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland. He joined the Air Force and served with No. 3 Wing, No. 4 Bombing & Gunnery, No. 37 MTC Unit, No. 10 Air Observer School, and at RAF West Drayton in England. William was taken prisoner in Benghazi during his service in Gibraltar and he recovered there after his release. He also trained in Canada at a winter experimental establishment in 1947. William died in 1994. McGREGOR (nee GRAY), Christina A. “Chris” WWII Chris was born on December 15, 1920 in Salvador, Saskatchewan. Her father served in WWI and WWII and her two brothers and two sisters also served in the Armed Forces and the United States Army. Chris enlisted in Regina on April 27, 1942 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe with the 42nd Company of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She said CWACs did all sorts of clerical and stenographic jobs such as driving trucks, staff cars and other vehicles, being cooks, and doing general duty. Basically, “… to replace a soldier for front-line duty; we do his job and he fights.” Corporal McGregor left the service in Regina on October 26, 1945 after which she worked as a secretary. In 1948, she married Gordon McGregor (deceased), a member of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps serving in Canada, and they raised two sons. She was also secretary of her curling club, has been treasurer of the L/A of Nutana Legion Branch 362 and flag bearer. McINTOSH, Clarence W. WWII Clarence was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in Canada and overseas during World War II. He married, had 4 children, and was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 and a Calgary Legion for a total of 50 years. Clarence died in 1996 and is buried in Calgary, Alberta.
