The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 201 KILTAU, Edwin WWII Edwin was born in Leader, Saskatchewan on August 19, 1917. He enlisted in the Army on December 15, 1942 at the Regina Armouries and then transferred to Vancouver, British Columbia. He served in Canada and was discharged on January 26, 1946. In August 1945, Edwin married Sada Patterson, with whom he raised seven children, and went on to farm on the home place for 54 years until his death on May 29, 1999. KING, Robert H. “Bob” WWII Bob was born on June 19, 1915 in Regina. He was a farmer before enlisting as COTC Sergeant Cadet in May 1941 in Saskatoon, joining the Royal Canadian Artillery as an officer and training at Gordon Head, British Columbia and at the Artillery School at Petawawa, Ontario. Bob served in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe in the 3rd Canadian Medium Regiment and left the service in January 1946 in Regina as Captain. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre et Palme. After the war, he studied at the University of Saskatchewan (B.A. 1940; LL.B. 1948) and entered the practice of law. He also served as Saskatchewan provincial court judge from 1961 to 1985. Bob married and had two children. KONDRA, William “Bill” WWII Bill was born on January 14, 1922 at Prud’homme, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in October 1941 at Saskatoon and was trained as a bomb aimer and front gunner and was crewed as the only Canadian with a Royal Air Force bomber crew. They were with Squadron 100 at Waltham Air Base at Grimsby as part of No. 1 Bomber Command. The crew completed a full tour over Europe from August 30, 1943 to January 27, 1944 with eleven missions out of thirty flown over Berlin. Their aircraft was damaged on practically every trip but miraculously, no one in the crew sustained an injury. Bill left the RCAF in Regina in September 1945 as a Flying Officer but rejoined again and served with Transport Command until 1970. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. Bill later became a letter carrier and at age 68, married a widow with 10 children.
