A. “Bill” WWII Bill was born on September 24, 1908 in Llandaff, Wales and worked in the coal mines from age 15 until the strike of 1921 after which his family immigrated to Canada. In 1933, Bill married, tried farming but had lots of problems mainly because of the depression. His parents returned to England in 1937 and Bill and his wife followed with their two daughters in 1939. They later had a son. The family landed in Liverpool on September 3, 1939, the day Britain declared war on Germany. Bill worked as a cook and a butcher at the RAF station at Yatesburg and was called up by the RAF in September 1941 and sent to the Middle East. He also served in Italy, Northwest Europe, Corsica and Greece then transferred to the RCAF before leaving the service in February 1946 in Winnipeg as Leading Aircraftman. After the war, Bill established an IGA store in Saskatoon and served for nine years with Squadron 406 of the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon. KEITH, David McLeod WWII David was born on January 2, 1923 in Macklin, SK. He joined the Navy on July 15, 1941 and served on HMCS Queen, Stadacona, Thunder, Dunvegan, Mahone and Cornwallis. Sub-Lieutenant Keith left the service on August 14, 1945 and took Bachelor of Arts and Education degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of personnel for the Saskatoon School Board. After retiring from schools, he became executive director of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council in Saskatoon. From 1949, he was Staff Officer for UNTD on HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon, Lieutenant RCN, Area Officer Sea Cadets for SK, AB and NS as Lieutenant RCN. He served in the Reserves on HMCS Unicorn and Naden and other training ships, and was CO of HMCS Unicorn from 1960-64 as Commander RCN (R). He received the Canadian Forces Decoration. David has held leadership positions with the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, the Prairieland Exhibition in Saskatoon, the Meewasin Valley Authority, Saskatchewan Place and The Royal Canadian Legion. KERNAN, Jack Adam WWII Jack was born on August 16, 1927 in Regina. He joined the Army as a Private in 1942, served in the Reserves with the 40th Field Regiment and was a Bombardier when he left the service in Regina in 1947. Jack took Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees at the University of Saskatchewan and worked as a chemist in the textile industry with CIL then did pharmaceutical research with Charles E. Frosst Company. Finally, he did agricultural research with the Saskatchewan Research Council in Saskatoon. Jack is active with Grosvenor Park United Church, the Voyageur Club, The Royal Canadian Legion and in bowling, fastball, skiing and golf.
