The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 189 JOHNSON, Gilman Odean WWII Odean was born on April 19, 1922 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon in 1942 and was sent to Canada’s west coast after completing his training as Aircraftman 2. Their mission was to patrol the west coast, searching for Japanese submarines that might want to attack Canada. After the war, Odean went to Normal School and then taught at many different locations in Saskatchewan. He left teaching and went to the Northwest Territories to work in the mines where he became supervisor of the lab. He later returned home to farm. Odean died on March 17, 2007. JONES, Albert WWII Albert was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served as a Sapper (Engineers) in Canada, England, Italy, and North Africa during World War II. He married and worked as a machinist. Albert lives in British Columbia. JONES, Carle WWII Carle was born in Wimmer, Saskatchewan in 1913. He joined the Army and did his basic training in Vernon, British Columbia in 1941. He then served in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Canada and the Aleutian Islands and later transferred to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Carle married and lived in Saskatoon. He was a member of the Nutana Legion Branch 362 before he died in 2008.
