The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 185 JASPER, Joseph John “Joe” WWII Joe was born in 1907 northeast of Briercrest, Saskatchewan. He served as a mechanic/transport driver with 71 L.A.D., 5th Canadian Armoured Division of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in England, Italy and Holland during WWII. Joe married Edna Gibbs in 1954 and they farmed in the Briercrest/Blue Hills area, raising their family of two. He was a member of Briercrest and Moose Jaw Legion Branch 59 for forty-five years before he passed away in 1991. His last days were spent in the very comfortable care of the staff at the D. V. A. wing of the Wascana Centre in Regina. JENKINS, William “Bill” WWI Bill was born in Cardigan, Wales in 1891 and came to Canada in 1907. He joined the Canadian Army and served as a Private with the 181st Infantry Battalion in Canada, England, and Continental Europe. He was wounded and spent a year in hospital overseas. Bill came to Clair, Saskatchewan in 1922 and never married. He died in 1971 and is buried in Wadena, Saskatchewan. JESTIN, Robert Louis “Bob” WWII Bob was born on June 10, 1922 to Paul and Margaret (Quaid) Jestin of Naicam, Saskatchewan. He attended school to Grade 11 then purchased a wood sawing outfit. At age 20, Bob joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina and trained as an airplane electrician in Toronto and St. Thomas, Ontario. He was later stationed at Claresholm, Alberta. After his release from service in Saskatoon in December 1944, Bob returned to Naicam and purchased land to begin farming. In 1948, he married Margaret and they had seven children. He was a member of Naicam Legion Branch 218 for twenty-five years before his death in November 2008.
