The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 165 HENSON, Harry WWI Harry was born on May 4, 1880 in Leeds, England. His father died when he was 12 and he went to work on the trams. He married Alice Taylor in 1904 and they had three boys, but two died as infants. In 1913, Harry, Alice and Richard came to Prince Albert to homestead. When war broke out in 1914, the family returned to England where Harry enlisted in the Cavalry, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Serving in England, France and Belgium, he was wounded twice and carried shrapnel in his back all his life. Harry and his family returned to Canada in 1919 and resettled in Prince Albert. Their fourth child Wilfred was born in 1921. Harry spent the remainder of his life working at the Roundhouse at the train station in Prince Albert and farming on their homestead. A member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2, Harry passed away in the VA Hospital in North Battleford in June 1965. HENSON, Richard WWII Richard, the second son of Harry and Alice (Taylor) Henson, was born in Leeds, England on November 4, 1906. He came to Canada with his parents when he was nine years old but they returned to England where his father enlisted to serve in WWI. They returned to Prince Albert, Canada when he was 14. Richard completed his schooling in England then worked on the farm with his father until 1939 when WWII broke out. Richard joined the Army and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Signal Corps as a truck driver, serving in England, France and Holland. Back in Canada, he returned to farming for a while then met his wife Mary. He worked at various jobs until his retirement. In later years, he suffered many health problems and eventually had to have his leg amputated. He was living in a nursing home with Mary when he passed away in 1988. HENSON, Wilfred WWII Wilfred was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on April 26, 1921, the youngest son of Harry and Alice (Taylor) Henson. He completed school then worked with his parents on the farm before joining the Army in 1942. Wilfred was fortunate to serve alongside his brother Richard when he was assigned to the Royal Canadian Signal Corps as a truck driver. After serving in Canada, England, France and Holland, he returned home in 1946 and farmed until 1948 when he married Eileen Warner and settled in Prince Albert. Of their five children, a son and daughter followed in his footsteps and joined the military. Wilfred worked as a journeyman mechanic at various garages around Prince Albert as well as for the School Board repairing school buses until he retired in 1991. He was a longtime member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2 and was active on many committees. Wilfred passed away on February 8, 2000 after several years of ill health.
