The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 157 HANSON, Oscar Elmer WWII Oscar was born on August 15, 1909 on the family farm near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He taught school in Echo Lake and Hampstead prior to enlisting as a Private with the Regina Rifles Regiment on July 22, 1942. He served in Northwest Europe and was wounded in battle on the beach of Normandy. After being treated in a hospital in England, Oscar returned to duty and had his right arm shot off in another battle. He was discharged in December 1944 and returned home. Oscar later moved with his brother Norman to Westminster, British Columbia where they purchased a fishing boat and fished for a while to make a living. He later worked at the YMCA in New Westminster and retired from there. Oscar spent his last years in a Veterans home and died on August 22, 1996. He is buried in the Soldiers plot in New Westminster. HARRISON, Leonard W. WWII Leonard was born in Wiseton, Saskatchewan in 1917 but went to live in Quill Lake in 1922. He served with the 28th Canadian Armoured Regiment and the British Columbia Regiment hauling ammunition for tanks in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He passed away in 2002 and is buried in Saskatchewan’s Quill Lake Cemetery. HAUGRUD, Dennis WWII Dennis was born in Clair, Saskatchewan in 1925. He joined the Canadian Army and served as a Private with the Tank Corps in Canada, England and Holland during WWII. He married and had two children. Dennis died in 2000 and is buried in Surrey, British Columbia.
