The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 147 HAGGARD, Alvin William WWII Alvin was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1920. He joined the Army and served as a Lieutenant with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England and France. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal at the Dieppe Raid into France in 1942. After his discharge, Alvin moved to Tisdale. He was married with four children. He died in 1984 and is buried in Rialto, California, USA. HAGGARD, Cloyd L. WWII Cloyd was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1914. He joined the Army and served in Canada as a signalman with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps and with the Regina Rifles A Company from 1942-1943. Private Haggard was medically discharged due to an accident. Cloyd married and had three children. He was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for twenty-three years before he died in 1969. He is buried in Quill Lake Cemetery. HAGLEY, John Henry WWII John was born in 1916 in Readlyn, SK. He enlisted in Moose Jaw in 1939 and was posted on May 8, 1940 to Mossbank where he was a drogue operator for one and a half years. Corporal Hagley was then remustered to the Pilots program and found to be a natural at Morse Code. He trained in Winnipeg as a wireless operator and received the Air Force Medal for dedicated service. John was sent to Patricia Bay, BC for flight training with a crew of eight. After training in a flying boat (Canso) for a Coastal Command unit, he was promoted to Flying Officer. The crew was then sent to Goose Bay in Newfoundland, and a few months later, to Reykjavik, Iceland, a destination that was only revealed while in flight. At discharge in 1946, John was offered an instructor position but he turned it down in order to farm in Drinkwater where he and his wife Beatrice raised eight children. He was a member of Pense Legion Branch 341 for thirty-five years before he died in 1982.
