The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 145 GUNN, Dave WWI & WWII Dave was born in England and came to Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1912. During World War I, he served in the Army in Canada, England, and France. He also served with the Home Guard at Canadian prisoner-of-war camps during World War II. Dave, a farmer, passed away and is buried in Ontario. GUST, Mitchell George WWII & PEACETIME Mitchell was born in Davidson in 1924. He joined the Army on January 6, 1943 and served in Regina, Camrose, Calgary, Wainwright, Prince George, Woodstock, Kitchener and Shilo before going overseas to Scotland and then serving in the Infantry in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. In July 1944, Mitchell was wounded in France but he returned to the front lines after a stay at a hospital in England. He was in Holland when the war ended and he landed in New York on his 21st birthday on November 15, 1945. He was discharged in Regina on January 7, 1946. Mitchell rejoined the Artillery on April 25, 1955, was stationed in Victoria and in August 1957, was transferred to Winnipeg and discharged on April 5, 1961. He was awarded the 193945 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Mitchell was a member of Paddockwood Legion Branch 31 for thirty-seven years before he died in 1985. HACKETT, James Boyd WWII James was born in 1920 in Asquith, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Europe during World War II. James was killed in action in 1944 and a Saskatchewan lake in the Big River area was named Hackett Lake in his memory. He received medals for his service during the war.
