The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 101 DUNSIRE, Neva Isabella WWII Neva was born in 1923 in Springburn, Manitoba. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division and served in Canada during WWII. Neva spent her first year in New Brunswick and in 1943, was posted to Victoria, the only all female unit in the RCAF. She was a telephone operator in the operations room where filter clerks kept track of movements of all boats, ships, planes, etc. on land and sea, from the USA border northwards. Spotters sent in their information and the women kept track of these movements on a huge map while keeping in touch with the men who were setting up radar stations. This was new and very secretive work so no one was allowed to talk about it. Neva is a member of Maple Leaf Unit 287. DURANT, Fred SPECIAL DUTY AREA Fred was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan in 1937. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in Canada and Europe. Fred married. DYCK, Henry WWII Henry was born in Main Centre, Saskatchewan on December 24, 1914. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in 1942 and was sent overseas to England, France, Holland and Germany. He was a cook on the front lines so he was very close to the action. Henry came home safe and was discharged in January 1946. He and his wife, Frieda Matzick, moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan a few years later and the family had a very long and happy life. They retired in Winfield, British Columbia and Henry passed away on December 4, 1999. He was a member of Yorkton Legion Branch 77 and a member in Oyama, British Columbia.
