The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 63 BURNS, Russell WWII His parents, Bernard and Rose moved to New Osgoode-Zenon Park area in 1924. Their children, Everyl, Herman, Elroy and Russell went to Goyer School. He joined the Army in 1941 and served with the 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment 5th Brigade, 2nd Division and took his basic training at Maple Creek and advance training at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and spent four years overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He married Esther Zielhe in 1950 and they had two daughters, Bernadette and Bernadine. They farmed in the Silver Stream area. BYERS, Douglas R. RESERVES Douglas was born on June 10, 1967 in Saskatoon. He enlisted on January 19, 1985 in Canada’s Reserve Army and was still serving in the No. 16 Battalion when this book was prepared. Douglas is married. BYERS, William James PEACETIME William was born in McAuley, Manitoba, in 1924. He enlisted in the Army during Peacetime and was stationed at Work Point, British Columbia, and Camp Shilo, Manitoba. In 1950, he married Donna Marshall and they had one daughter, Sheila. After his discharge, he had a delivery business in Moosomin and managed a Café in Welwyn for a few years, and later moved to McAuley and spent 12 years as a driver before retiring to Moosomin. Bill now resides in a care home in Wolsely, Saskatchewan. BYERS, Lawrence Thomas WWII Lawrence was born in the Archie District in 1912. He joined the Engineers and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, and upon his returning from the war in the Fall of 1945, he took up farming in the R.M. of Ellice until retiring to Welwyn, Saskatchewan, in 1973. Lawrence had been a member of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 32 years before he passed away in 1991.
