The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 59 BUCHBERGER, Herbert Samuel “Herb” WWII Herb was born in the Landshut District, Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on September 10, 1907. He enlisted in 1941 with the 2nd Canadian Division, 28th Canadian B.C. Tank Regiment and went overseas to serve in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He married Margaret in 1963 and they raised five children and lived in Selkirk, Manitoba. Herb passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 3, 1999 at age 91. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the France/Germany Star and the 1939-45 War Medal. BUCK, David Desmond WWII David was born on November 3, 1925 at Woodlawn, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy at Ottawa on October 30, 1943 and became a stoker and served on the high seas on HMCS Lauzon and HMCS Puncher out of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Londonderry. He left the service as Able Seaman in February 1946 in Ottawa. Married with two sons, he worked as a lumberjack before the war and afterward attended McGill University for two years and worked for 20 years with Northern Electric and for 30 years with Intercollege Press. He served as secretary-treasurer with The Legion in the Talbot Papineau Branch in Montebello, Quebec. BURIANYK, Michael WWII and PEACETIME Michael was born in Jasmin, Saskatchewan, on June 6, 1918. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 21, 1938 and was posted to #2AC Squadron and later changed to 2CA Squadron and went overseas being in charge of the radio section. He left there and went over to the 118th Squadron. He also served in Bagotville, Gaspe, Moncton, #10TU, Greenville, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland to set up # 2RWPU from there to Winnipeg and was discharged after ten years of service on September 8, 1947. He has been a member of the Kelliher Branch #219 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years. BUNKA, John WWII John was born on January 19, 1921 at Saskatoon. He enlisted in the Army in July 1941 and served in Northwest Europe with the Artillery (RCA) and left the service as a Gunner on November 10, 1945. John is married, with his son listed as next of kin.
