The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 39 BENNETT, Ed WWII Ed was born on November 11, 1913 to Art and Jessie near Horizon, Saskatchewan. The family moved to River’s End and Ed joined the Army in 1939, serving in Canada, England, Sicily, Italy, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium and returned on October 5, 1945 and married Alice Stofford in 1949 and raised four children. Ed is now deceased. BERGEN, Arnold WWII Arnold was born on April 1, 1924 at Waldheim, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army on December 3, 1943 and served in the airborne forces in Northwest Europe and left the service in July 1947 as a Private. Arnold is married. BERTHOLD, Edwin WWII Edwin was born in Humboldt. He trained as a marine boiler operator and served in the Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy and joined the Merchant Navy Pool and sailed from Vancouver in August 1942 on MV Fort Pitt. Later, he signed T-124X agreement for Naval Auxiliary Personnel and served on HMS Activity from November 2, 1942 until November 28, 1946 and later made one trip on HMS Persimon to Naples and India. He left the service on November 28, 1946. Edwin is married. BERLIN, Nels WWII Nels was born in 1903 in Jamtland, Sweden, to Jonas and Margit and moved with the family to Canada in 1906, settling in the Star City area. Nels took a homestead in the White Fox area and married Helena Penner and raised five children. He joined the Air Force in 1941 and served in England, returning home in 1946, and purchased land at Garrick. He passed away in March 1983.
