The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 403 VIERGUTZ, L. Robert WWII Robert was born on July 12, 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941, before his 21st birthday, and attended Air Force Youth Training in Regina and completed his training at St. Thomas, Ontario, and was posted in Paulson, Manitoba, in 1942 as a mechanic working on various aircrafts. He was later stationed at Penfield Ridge, New Brunswick, where he was discharged in 1945. Robert returned to civilian life and helped his dad with the farming. He married Julia Luebke in October 1947 and moved to Regina to work for Dench of Canada hauling freight and continued working there until the spring of 1952. Robert was able to purchase a half-section of land near Dahinda through the Veterans’ Land Act and farmed until he retired in Ogema. During his service years, he volunteered to go overseas but was never chosen. His favourite war song was “Till We Meet Again.” VON BIEKER, Leonard WWII Leonard was born in Beverley, Alberta, on January 9, 1922. He joined the Army in 1942, helping to train troops and was discharged on May 17, 1946. Leonard and his wife, Clara, moved to Prince George, where he worked for a lumber company for over 30 years. Leonard passed away on January 3, 2006. VOYSEY, Donald Fredrick WWII Donald was born in Allan, Saskatchewan, in 1917. He joined the Army in 1940, serving in Europe, and was discharged in 1945. He farmed at Rivers End and then the family moved to Regina, where he worked until he retired in 1982. VOYSEY, Andre A. WWII Andre was born in Allan, Saskatchewan, in 1919. He joined the Grenadier Armoured Corps in 1940 and served in France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He was discharged in 1945. He farmed for a while at Rivers End and the family retired to Watrous, Saskatchewan.
