The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 397 VAIL, Harold James WWII Harold was born in the Pickwell District, five and one-half miles south of Wawota, Saskatchewan, and was one of twelve children born to Bill and Mary Vail. He took his schooling at Pickwell and joined the Army as soon as he came of age in 1939, and served until the end of the war. On returning home, he married Jean Haws and they had five children. Soon after their marriage, they moved to New Westminster, British Columbia, where Harold worked in a mill. VAIL, Irene Evelyn WWII Irene was one of twelve children born to Bill and Mary Vail from the Pickwell School District south of Wawota, Saskatchewan. She took her schooling at Pickwell but times being hard during the nineteen-thirties, she quit early to work out and to help support the family. Irene joined the CWAC in Winnipeg in 1939 and served in Canada until the war’s end. She married Ed Bourque and they raised a family of four. Irene and Ed live in Campbell River, British Columbia. VAN CAESEELE, George WWII George was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, and joined the #1 Platoon Company, #122 CABTC. He married Meuril in 1944 and soon went overseas. He was wounded in action and upon retiring from the war, he worked at various jobs doing carpentry before settling down in Winnipeg. He worked there for the Department of National Defence making training aids for the air force. He retired in 1976. George raised 4 children and passed away from cancer in Winnipeg on July 30, 1981. VAN CAESEELE, Arthur WWII Arthur was born in the family farm west of Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on August 28, 1921. He joined the Army on August 19, 1942. Unfortunately, after illness kept him in a hospital in Toronto for four months, he received a medical discharge on March 20, 1943 and returned home to farm. He spent two summers harvesting in Ontario. In 1950, he bought a farm with his brother, Oscar. They sold the farm in 1989 and moved into town. Arthur helped at home taking care of his ailing father. He never married.
