The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 393 ULBERG, Eskil WWII Eskil was born in Erickson, Manitoba, in 1925. As a youth, he played hockey with passion. He volunteered for the Army in early 1944 and took his parachute training in Shilo, Manitoba, and finished his training in England. He was deployed to Ghent, Belgium, by parachute and fought through Belgium, France and Germany. On their initial deployment jump in Belgium, some 600 paratroopers dropped along Eskil and some 150 soldiers failed to reach the ground alive. Today, Eskil enjoys excellent health and resides alone in Saskatoon. He has been a member of the Nutana Branch #362 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 19 years and visits the Branch frequently. UNDERHILL, Alice R. WWII Alice was born and raised on a farm in Tessier, Saskatchewan, in 1924 and went to school there and then to City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force shortly after as a wireless operator and spent time in Ottawa, Montreal, and Patricia Bay on Vane Isle, British Columbia. After her discharge, she married Alvin Riley and had a variety of jobs, including hairdressing and working for Custom Dry Cleaners but enjoyed most of all working at the SCCCA, now known as the Abilities Council. After many years with them, she and her husband retired in Saskatoon and continues to enjoy life. She has been a member of the Wakaw Branch #195 of The Royal Canadian Legion for five years. UNDERHILL, Donalda Doreen WWII Donalda, a twin to her brother, Donald, was born on a farm near Tessier, Saskatchewan, on December 23, 1925. She attended Jasper School and then Haultain School in Saskatoon. She joined the RCA and served in Canada. She later married and raised a family in Saskatoon. Donalda passed away on April 21, 1989. UNDERHILL, Donald Delbert WWII Donald, a twin, was born near Tessier, Saskatchewan, on a farm on December 23, 1925, and went to school at Jasper, then at Haultain, Saskatoon. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in mechanical engineering and was a driving instructor. He was stationed at Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and Regina, and was involved in the family business, Underhill Bros, in Saskatoon and then moved to Lansing, Michigan, USA, where he was self-employed as a painter until he retired. He still resides there with his wife and family.
