The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 369 SKUNDBERG, Eva Gladys SPECIAL AREA DUTY & PEACETIME Eva was born in Coronach, Saskatchewan, on August 23, 1957. She enrolled in the reserves in 1981 with the Militia District HQ as an administration clerk achieving the rank of Master Corporal prior to joining the Canadian Forces regular force as an administration clerk on April 25, 1985. She became a resource management support clerk in 1988, after finance and administration amalgamated. She had many postings during her stay in the service and received the Canadian Forces Decoration 1 (CD1) and the Special Service Medal (SSM). SLABICK, Edward Arthur WWII Edward was born in Summerberry, Saskatchewan, on April 1, 1922. He started working for the CPR in 1941 and joined the Army #2 Port Company in March 1943 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, and trained in Regina, Maple Creek, Suffield, Alberta, Camp Shilo, Manitoba, Camp Borden, Ontario and Debert, Nova Scotia, and then the government formed a #2 Port Company to work on ships in Saint John, New Brunswick, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and Goose Bay, Labrador, loading guns, tanks, ammunition and food for overseas. On May 26, 1946, Edward received his discharge and came back to Estevan to resume his job with CPR until his retirement on February 7, 1983, after working for 42 years. He had been a member of the Estevan Branch #60 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 51 years before he passed away on September 1, 2000. SLADE, Connell Walter WWII Connell joined the Army and passed away in 1965. He was a member of the Smeaton Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. SLACK, Clarence Norman WWII Norman was born in Springside, Saskatchewan, on January 13, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, serving in Canada and England. For his service he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal Ribbon, and a personally-signed citation from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth for service above and beyond the call of duty. Norman was discharged in 1945 and came to Alameda, Saskatchewan, to work for his uncle’s store, which he eventually took over. He married Hazel Leadley and they had four children. Norman was a member of the Alameda Legion Branch #267 and was an active member in The Legion and the community. He passed away in January 1978.
