The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 349 RUSSELL, Ernie A. WWI Ernie came with his family from Staffshire, England, in 1913 to the Waterfield area, Saskatchewan, and took up three quarters. A house was built on their father’s homestead and Ernie worked at Indian Head, Saskatchewan, to get experience with trees, horses, haymaking and stooking. He joined the Army in 1915 and was overseas for three years and returned home to work on his homestead, which he sold and returned to England and married Heather, a Red Cross nurse, and they raised one son. Ernie passed away in England in February 1984. RYMES, William Thomas WWI William was born in Hastings, Sussex, England, on October 9, 1889. He joined the 203rd Battalion on May 13, 1916, serving in England and France, and was discharged on February 20, 1919. He was wounded in combat and returned to Canada in 1919 with an English bride. He passed away on March 12, 1974 and had been a member of the Earl Grey #137 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 27 years and the Selton Branch #33 for 17 years. SAMWAY, Harold Henry WWI & WWII Harold was born in Deloraine, Manitoba. He joined the Air Force as a cadet for pilot in 1918, and as a private in 1942 serving in Canada. After his discharge in 1946, Harold, Sylvia and Maybelle moved to Welwyn, where he taught school until his retirement in 1972. He was zone commander and district commander of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. In September 1982, he moved to St. Albert, Alberta, to live with his daughter until his passing. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. SAMPSON, Phil WWII Phil was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, in 1919. He joined the Air Force and served in Canada and England from 1941 to 1946 and received the Defence Medal.
