The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 347 RUSHTON, Walter Horace WWI Horace was born in Worcester, England, in 1898. He enlisted in May 17, 1917 with 76th Battery CFA and served with the 43rd Battery, 8th Brigade, RCA and was discharged on April 9, 1919. Horace and his family moved to Alameda, Saskatchewan, in 1938 and worked with the Alameda Dispatch and joined the Alameda Legion Branch #267 in 1945 and then moved to Kenora, Ontario, and worked with the local newspaper. He passed away in August 1953. RUSK, Elwin Harold WWII Elwin was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, on December 3, 1915. He joined the Armoured Corps 4th Division on September 10, 1942 and served in Normandy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was discharged on April 6, 1945. Elwin and his wife, Ida, and family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in 1974. He passed away on March 17, 2003. His wife belonged to the auxiliary of the White Fox Branch #244 of The Royal Canadian Legion. RUSSELL, Charlie A. WWI Charlie came with his family to the Waterfield area, Saskatchewan, in 1913 from Staffshire, England. He worked in the summer at Indian Head to get experience with horses, trees, haymaking and stooking. They had three homesteads. A house was built on their father’s homestead. In December 1915, he joined the Army and spent three years overseas. He married a Welsh girl and returned to his homestead where they raised five children. Charlie sold out in the 1930s and moved to British Columbia. RUSK, James Elmer WWII James was born in Minitonas, Manitoba, in 1921. He enlisted in the Army in August 1942 and took his basic training in Maple Creek. His first posting was in Halifax and then to Victoria in the Spring of 1943 with the 5th (British Columbia) Coast Regiment RCA and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe until the Spring of 1946, when he received his honourable discharge and returned home. Jim was a member of the Gainsborough Branch #170 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 50 years until he passed away in 1995.
