The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 333 RICHMOND, W. G. “Bud” WWII Bud was born to William and Georgia at Leacross, Saskatchewan, on November 24, 1912. He taught school for a while, and was a bush pilot in Saskatchewan, the Territories and the USA. In 1939, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and saw service in Canada, England, India and Burma. After 20 years in the military service, he retired with the rank of Squadron Leader. In 1961, his life ended in a tragic air crash while fighting forest fires on the west coast. He left behind a wife, Georgia, and their two children: Lynn and Lance. RIDSDALE, Frederic WWII Frederic joined the Canadian Army and was a Quarter Master Sergeant. He passed away in 1979. RILEY, John Lepage WWI & WWII John was born in Wilmot, PEI, on February 14, 1891. At age 24, he enlisted with the 55th Battalion and served in England and France. He was poisoned by gas and hospitalized in France and Britain. On February 20, 1918, he was granted permission to marry Lila Trowbridge from “Isle of Wight.” He served 4 years and 14 days before being discharged in Canada on March 6, 1919. They resided in PEI for a few years and then moved to Saskatchewan to raise their family of five, three of which joined the services. John then joined the active army in WWII on July 25, 1942 as a Veteran’s Guard of Canada and was discharged on December 7, 1944. He and Lila resided in Regina until his death in 1972. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. RILEY, Alvin W. WWII Alvin was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, in 1922, and attended school at Strathcarol. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for more than four years, stationed at Toronto, Trenton, Montreal and Mount Hope. After his discharge, he took electrical training in Saskatoon and worked for several years for others and then built his own business, “Riley’s Electric.” He married Alice Underhill and they still reside in Saskatoon. Riley has been a member of the Wakaw Branch #195 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 5 years.
