The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 325 PREECE, Steward John “Stew” WWII Stew was born at Orillia, Ontario, on November 1, 1926. He joined the Navy in June 1944, serving in Canada. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 Star. After being discharged in July 1946, he came out west to the Pense area, Saskatchewan, and married Betty Wilson and had a family of four. He moved to Alameda in 1964 and joined the Alameda Royal Canadian Legion Branch #267. Stew passed away in March 2003. PRINCE, Earl R. WWII Earl was born in Langenburg on August 8, 1922. He joined the 13th Field Regiment, 101st Field Battery on June 9, 1941 and embarked overseas as re-inforcements early in 1942 and proceeded to Normandy Beach, landing on June 6, 1944. He was a gunner on 25 pounder and 105mm S.P.s. He stayed with the regiment until the end of hostilities in May 1945 and re-allocated to CFEF in June 1945. He returned to Canada in July 1945 and was released from the CFEF after the surrender of Japan in August 1945 with the advent of the atomic bomb. After his discharge on November 21, 1945, he married and raised a family and became a grain buyer for Federal Grain Elevator and later with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He retired in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, the France/Germany Star, and the 1939-45 War Medal. PRINCE, Norman J. WWII Norman was born in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on December 18, 1919. He joined the 63 COY, RCASC as a mechanic on January 13, 1942 and went to Normandy and Europe in June 1944, repairing and keeping the big transport vehicles operating and did six weeks of guard duty at the Antwerp docks due to a shortage of men in all units. After the Allied bombing in Holland, he rejoined his unit until June 1945 when he contracted wet pleurisy and came to Canada on the hospital ship in November 1945 and stayed in Saskatoon until April 1946. He married and raised a family on the family farm near Marchwell and did mechanical work in a shop on his farm. Norman received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. He retired to Saskatoon. PRINCE, Ewald P. WWII Ewald was born in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on March 25, 1921. He joined the Canadian Forces on December 11, 1942 and served in Canada and the United Kingdom, receiving his discharge on May 31, 1946 and coming back to farm in the Marchwell area. He married Matilda, raised a family of two, and retired to Langenburg. Ewald had taken his training in Regina and British Columbia and drove trucks there. He slept in tents in below zero degrees and came home for two weeks to help with the harvest and went back to British Columbia and was moved around a lot before being scheduled to go overseas.
