The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 309 PARKINSON, Ernest H. WWII Ernest was born in the Chamber District near Bredenbury, Saskatchewan in March 1922. He joined the Navy as a Leading Steward on June 13, 1942 and served on HMCS Matepedia-Corvette-triangle run, HMCS CollingwoodCorvette, Newfoundland to Londonberry, HMCS Wentworth-Frigate from Newfoundland to Londonberry and Ireland. Ernest was discharged on December 20, 1945 and married and raised a family in Langenburg. He was postmaster in Langenburg from 1962-1987 and retired to Regina to be closer to his family. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the King George Medal, the 1939-45 Star, and the Atlantic Star. PEARCE, Douglas WWII Douglas was born in Parkman, Saskatchewan, in 1921. He was a wireless operator air gunner with the #415 Swordfish Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force and was killed in action on June 28, 1942, flying a Hampden aircraft over Holland and is buried in the Vredenhof Cemetery, Schiermonnikoog, Frisian Islands, Friesland, Holland. Pearce Lake in northern Saskatchewan is named in his memory. PENNYCOOK, Elmer WWII His parents, William and Janet, moved to Saskatchewan in 1907 with their family of three boys and four girls in the Nealdale District. Elmer was born in 1914 and the family attended Jensen school. Elmer was the younger brother of Bob. He joined the Canadian Provost Corps and was a Lance Corporal. Elmer was killed on May 1, 1944 and is buried at Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, Ortona, Italy. Pennycook Lake in Northern Saskatchewan was named in his memory. PEEL, Harvey Alvin WWII Harvey was born in Bethune, Saskatchewan, in 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Flight 73 aero-engine mechanics WETP serving in Canada. He passed away in 2000.
