The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 307 PAL, Matyas WWII Matyas was born in Etes, Hungary, in 1924. He joined the Air Force and served in Canada and India. He is a member of the Semans Branch #108 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PARKER, Albert “Bert” BOER WAR Albert was born in Hereford, England in 1871 and enlisted with the Staffordshire Yeomanry at the beginning of the Boer War and served in South Africa and returned to England after a severe attack of malaria. He re-enlisted with the Imperial Yeomanry and served until the end of the campaign in 1903. Albert was awarded medals for battles at orange Free State and Cape Colony and took up homestead in the Eldersley area until 1945. He was an active member of the Tisdale Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away in 1947. PARKIN, Alfred D. WWII Alfred was born in Yorkshire, England. He came to Canada in 1919 and married Kathleen Luckwell. He joined the Army in 1940 and transported prisoners of war back to England from Alberta. In 1948, the family moved to Gunn, Alberta. PARKER, Millan Granville WWII Millan was born in Welwyn, Saskatchewan, in 1918. After receiving his education at old Welwyn school, he worked as a farm labourer until he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and went overseas to England and became a bomber and radar operator in the 424 Squadron and made 34 sorties over France and Germany. After his tour of “Ops,” he instructed for a year and came home arriving in Welwyn on VJ Day in August 1945. In 1948, Millan married Lorraine Allan of Welwyn and started farming in 1949 and raised a family of four children: Donna, Shirley, Allan and James. In 1974, Millan and Lorraine retired from farming and moved to Welwyn. He received several campaign medals. He passed away in 1989 and had been a member of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 42 years.
