The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 269 McPHAIL, Hugh WWI Hugh was born on May 22, 1874 at Wooler, Ontario, to John and Jane McPhail. The family moved to Keys, Manitoba, and Hugh came to Runciman, Saskatchewan, in 1905 looking for land. He joined the Army and served overseas. His sister, Mildred, and six children came from Keys, Manitoba, to live on his farm. After the war was over, Hugh came home to his farm. Mildred had bought her own land. He married Mabel Robertson and they raised three daughters. Hugh passed away on November 8, 1951. McRAE, Christopher Fredrick “Bud” WWII Christopher, son of Christopher and Margaret McRae, was born in Parkman, Saskatchewan, on October 1, 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 as ground crew and later transferred to air crew and trained as an air gunner at McDonald, Manitoba. He was killed in action over Germany on September 23, 1943. It was his 31st mission and had he completed it, he would have married and returned to Canada on his honeymoon. Bud is buried in the Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany. McRae Island in the north-east corner of Wolliston Lake is named in his memory. McRAE, George WWII George was born in the Lawson District on August 7, 1915, to Peter and Sarah, and the family moved to the Silver Stream District in 1921, and George went to Flin Flon in 1938 to work for the Hudson Bay Mining Co. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant. In 1945, he married Mary Cheney in England, and they returned to Flin Flon, where George worked with the mining company for 30 years. They raised two children. George passed away on November 9, 1983. McRAE, Donald Campbell PEACETIME Donald was born in Wishart, Saskatchewan, in 1931. He joined the Air Force in October 1951 and was stationed in Saskatoon until his transfer to Ottawa, Ontario, in 1956. He was discharged in 1961. He passed away in 1988.
