The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 25 BACALA, W. KOREA W. Bacala was born on June 23, 1926 in Winnipeg. He enlisted on June 28, 1944 and served with the Army Signal Corps (RCCS) and left the service on June 28, 1969 as a Sergeant. W. Bacala is married. BACK (BARKWELL), Elizabeth “Betty” WWII Betty was born in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1924. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) in May 1944 and served in Canada. She trained to be a meteorological observer and plotted weather maps in the Royal Canadian Air Force control towers at various stations of the British Commonwealth air training plan. After her discharge in October 1945, she taught high school before marrying Ron Back of Chelan, Saskatchewan, becoming a homemaker and mother of two. She was a very good piano player, playing for dances and many social functions. Betty passed away on October 26, 2009, and had been a member of the Chelan Branch #276 for 15 years. BADER, Michael J. WWII Michael was born on August 29, 1912 at Handel, Saskatchewan. He enlisted on July 14, 1940, serving in Canada, and left the service as a Private. Married, he was a Life Member of The Legion. BACK, Ronald Joseph WWII Ronald was born in Duval, Saskatchewan, on October 21, 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1941 and served in Canada. He was an aero electrician and also operated and maintained the “link trainer” or as is presently known, as a simulator used by pilots for night or blind flying training. He was discharged in October 1945 and returned to begin grain farming in the Chelan area while also operating a land clearing and earth moving enterprise which included reforestation in later years. Ronald is a Life Member of the Chelan Branch #276 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 40 years.
