The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 263 McDONALD, Norman WWII Norman was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in 1920 to Ruth and Dan McDonald who was a CPR Conductor. Norman started school in Regina and finished at Moosedale. He enlisted with the 2nd Canadian Signal Corps on February 1, 1942 and served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, and was discharged on January 11, 1946. He married Margaret Hall in 1947 and they moved to their homestead in the Moosedale area and raised four children. Norman passed away on February 9, 1987, and Margaret still lives in Carrot River. McDONALD, Ronald WWII Ronald was born at Humbolt, Saskatchewan, on January 18, 1917 and later moved to Saskatoon, where he took his schooling and moved to Connell Creek with his parents in 1931. He enlisted in the RCASC, 45th Canadian Army Dispatch Rider on July 11, 1941 and served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was discharged in 1946. He lived in Arborfield and married Letitia Greenshields, a nurse, in 1948. He received the Veterans’ Land in the Huntdale District and moved there. Ron passed away on June 12, 1990 and Letitia is also deceased. McDONELL, Duncan R. WWII Duncan was born on the family farm southest of Marchwell, Saskatchewan, on January 21, 1921. He joined the 25th Field Artillery (Gunner) in November 1942 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. He was discharged in March 1946. When he returned home, he farmed south of Marchwell and spent several winters as an ice-maker in Winnipeg at a curling rink and enjoyed golfing, curling, playing pool, cards and reminiscing. Duncan passed away in October 2004 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan. McDONELL, Alex WWII Alex was born on the family farm southeast of Marchwell, Saskatchewan. He joined the Armed Forces in 1941, serving in Regina and Winnipeg. He was discharged in 1941 due to health problems and returned home and farmed until his retirement in 1975. He enjoyed fishing, hockey, curling, cards and playing pool. Alex never married and passed away on April 3, 1999 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan.
