The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 245 L’OSTE-BROWN, Lionel Cunningham WWI Lionel was born in Shifnal, England, in 1886 and came to Canada to homestead. When WWI broke out, he enlisted in the Army with the 195th Regina Battalion on March 7, 1916 serving in France. He was killed in action at Vimy Ridge on April 28, 1917. LUNDQUIST, Roger WWII Roger was born northwest of Maidstone, Saskatchewan, on September 15, 1920. He joined the Army Engineers on April 9, 1942 serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received his discharge on March 12, 1946 and received the 1939-45 Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal of England, the France/Germany Star and the Thank-You Medal from Holland. Roger is a Life Member of the Maidstone Branch #142 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacGREGOR, Donald WWII Donald was born in Welwyn, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, serving in England and Canada. While overseas in 1944, he married Phyll Caden. Upon his return to Canada, he attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a degreee in mechanical engineering in 1949. He moved to Regina and worked for several construction companies until 1958 when he and a partner formed a consulting business. Ten years later, he joined the Saskatchewan Gov’t Telephones and retired to Welwyn in 1973, following a stroke. Don and Phyll have four children: Linda, Judy, Don and Doug. He passed away on January 8, 2006. He was a member of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacDONALD, Clifford Ray WWII Cliff was born in Hughton, Saskatchewan, on March 27, 1923. He enlisted with the 67th LAA Battery - 5th Anti-Tank on June 28, 1941 serving in Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Juno Beach, Normandy, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands as a gunnery instructor on 40mm weapons and then on heavy machine guns before landing at Juno Beach with 2mm machine guns. He was discharged in January 1946 and bought land through the Veterans’ Land Act and farmed for over 50 years. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the 193945 War Medal, the Normandy Medal and Bar, the 1945 Holland Dutch Medal, the 1945 Thank-You Dutch Medal, the 1939-45 Victory Medal and the Normandy Pin. He has been a member of Branch #362 and #206 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 68 years.
