The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 241 LINFITT, William Roger WWI William was born in Pudsey, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, on February 19, 1886, and came to Canada and homesteaded in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. He joined the 188th Battalion in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on May 8, 1916 and was discharged on July 12, 1918. He returned to his family after the war and continued farming. William passed away on February 12, 1962. LITTLEWOOD, John Alan “Gary” PEACETIME Gary was born in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, in 1945. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1962, serving in Canada, Germany, France, Egypt, Israel and Syria. He was awarded the Canadian Decoration with two Clasps, the United Nations Peacekeepers Medal, the United Nations Demilitarized Observer Force Medal, the United Nations Emergency Force II Medal, and the Special Services Medal with the NATO Bar. He took his release from the Army in 1996. Gary is a Life Member of the Coleman Alberta Branch #9, where he has served as Service Officer, Sergeant-atArms and several stints as Membership and Public Relations chairperson and Vice President since 1998. LONGLEY, Jim WWII Jim joined the Active Army in 1942 and took his basic training in Regina and Dundurn. After basic training, he joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. After a few weeks, he volunteered to join the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and was immediately sent overseas returning in 1946. LONG, Matt T. WWII Matt was born in County Cork, Ireland, and moved with his parents to Canada, finally settling in Nipawin in 1929. He married Mildred Furneau in 1944. He was in the RCNVR from 1944-1946. They moved in 1946 to White Fox, where Matt and his father ran a tractor repair shop. It was a good place for farmers sharing the news. Matt and Mildred raised two boys. He belonged to the White Fox Legion. Matt passed away in 1978.
