The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 223 KOWCH, Walter WWII Walter was born on June 8, 1925 in Swan Plain, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army on May 16, 1944 and took his basic training in Cornwall, Ontario, and his advanced training SB Course (First Aid) and his medium machine gun course in Camp Borden, Ontario, and served on two regiments, the Toronto Scottish-2nd Division and the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa-3rd Division. He was sent overseas on December 16, 1944 and on December 25, 1944 was off to Liverpool, where he served on the front lines as a machine gunner. He also fought in Belgium, Holland, Scotland, Germany and theatres of service in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was discharged on August 1, 1946 with an honourable discharge. Walter received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-45 Star Defence Medal. He married Anita Hubie on October 29, 1950 and they raised six children. Walter passed away on June 14, 2009 and had been a member of the Norquay Branch #351 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 63 years. KRETSCH, Raymond Peter WWII Raymond was born on June 14, 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1942 and served in France and Holland. He drove a mail truck after following Armistice in Germany until his discharge in 1945 and returned to Elbow to become a farmer until his death in 1975. KRUGER, David WWII David was born in the Marchwell area, Saskatchewan in February 1926. He joined the service and embarked for overseas on April 17, 1944 and was posted to RCASC in Aldershot. He was injured and reposted to RCA HG in London until the end of the war and was discharged in August 1946. He married and raised a family and now lives in Killarney, Manitoba. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the 193945 War Medal. KRUEGER, Norman R. WWII Norman joined the Princess Patricia Light Infantry (L/Cpl) in April 1939 and served and trained in Canada and was posted overseas to the Canadian Provost Corps in 1940 and was discharged in March 1946. Norman retired in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and passed away in the University Hospital in Edmonton and was cremated. His final resting place is Airdrie, Alberta. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the France/Germany Star and the 1939-45 Star. He had been a member of the Burtwood River Branch #244 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
