The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 221 KNIGHT, Ronald Bradley “Brad” WWII Brad was born in Langruth, Manitoba, on March 17, 1924 and moved to Regina. On June 16, 1941, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy serving on the HMCS Drumheller, a flower class Corvette. He was discharged on August 9, 1945 and went to work at various jobs before settling with Canada Post. Brad passed away on August 31, 2007. KNIGHT, William Stanley “Bill” KOREA Bill was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on December 4, 1932 and grew up in Ceylon, Saskatchewan, joining the Royal Canadian Navy in March 1951 and did his tour of duty in Korea serving on the HMCS Crusader and was one of the sailors that could boast they were in the Train Busters Club. After his discharge in March 1956, he became an Air Control Operator and resides in Edmonton. KOHLENBERG, Paul WWII Paul was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, on November 16, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 at the Regina Armouries and then transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles training at Shilo, Manitoba, and arriving in England on June 6, 1944, taking first aid and medic training there. Upon landing in Normandy, he was attached to A Coy-HQ as a stretcher bearer medic. He spoke fluent German and frequently translated when capturing or surrendering German soldiers. Paul married in September 1945 and his English bride joined him in Canada with their infant daughter. They raised three children and farmed for 27 years at Melville until moving to the K-5 Ranch at Woodside, Manitoba. Paul transferred to the Gladstone Legion in 1973 until his death on November 2, 2008 and was laid to rest in the Veterans’ Plot in Melville, Saskatchewan. The Melville Legion Honour Guard at Paul’s funeral asked his epitaph be “Lest We Forget.” KOCH, Albert WWII Albert was born in Rhein, Saskatchewan, in 1920. He joined the 5th Medium RCA, 23RD Battery serving in Italy, Holland and Germany.
