The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 215 KENTEL, Vernon F. WWII Vernon enlisted with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders (Infantry) on June 4, 1942 and embarked overseas in January 1943. He went to France with the 21st Army Group and was wounded and taken prisoner to Stalag 38 in Poland and was liberated by American Forces on March 17, 1945. He received his discharge on August 24, 1945. Vernon received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 War Medal, the 1939-45 Star and the France/Germany Star. KINDRAT (TAYLOR), Mary Stewart WWII Mary was born in Ridgedale, Saskatchewan, in 1924. She joined the CWAC in Regina in July 1942, and took her basic training in Vermilion, Alberta, and was then posted to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, as a bookkeeper in the supply depot for one year and then returned to Regina to the quartermaster stores, where she fitted and altered uniforms for new recruits and members of the CWAC. She was discharged in September 1945 and has been a member of the Tisdale Branch #50 of The Royal Canadian Legion for four years. KING, Howard Stanley WWII Stanley, son of William and Henrietta King, was born in the Battleford Hospital on March 29, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on March 30, 1942, serving with the North Atlantic Squadron out of Newfoundland as an Aero Engine Mechanic and spent most of his time in Yorkshire, England, working on the airplanes. While there, he met and married Rosemary Richardson of Newton, Yorkshire. At the end of the war, he returned to Canada to farm in the Bear Creek district, and he and Rose farmed there for many years. They have two grandchildren from his son, Anthony. He continued farming for a few years even after a fall that left him a paraplegic. Stanley eventually retired after a heart attack and he and Rose moved to Meadow Lake, where he resided until his death on September 5, 1997. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Defence Medal and was a member of the Meadow Lake Branch #76 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 35 years. KING, Arron WWII Arron joined the Air Force and passed away in 1965.
