The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 213 KAWA, Halina WWII Halina was born in Poland on May 11, 1906. She enlisted in 1942 as a Corporal and was discharged in 1948. She married John Kawa in 1925 and had a family of three. She received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, and the 1939-45 Star. Halina passed away in May 1992 and had been a member of the Langenburg Branch #250 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 18 years. KAWA, Jan “John” WWII Jan was born in Poland in 1900. He enlisted in the Polish Army (Warrant Officer) in 1942, serving in England. Jan married Halina in 1925, and when the war broke they were deported to Russia and after three years they managed to get out after they joined the Polish Army under British command. John was discharged from the British Army in 1948 and they came to Canada where he worked as a farm hand before starting his own farm. He retired to Langenburg in 1972 and passed away on October 12, 1984. KENNEY, Norman WWI & WWII Norman joined the Army and served his country in both WWI and WWII. KELLNER, Jack “Florian” WWII Jack joined the Army on October 23, 1941 and was discharged on October 9, 1942. After the war, he married Mildred and they had three children and ran a trucking business. He retired and moved to Calgary, Alberta.
