The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 209 JOHNSON, Norman John WWII Norman was born in Woodrow, Saskatchewan, on November 19, 1915. He joined the Air Force on March 23, 1942 and served in Canada. He took his youth training for air frame mechanic at Moose Jaw, Manning Depot at Brandon, TTS at St. Thomas, and was posted in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He received his discharge on September 28, 1945. He became a pressure welder for Saskatchewan Power and he and his wife, Evelyn, raised three sons and one daughter. Norman passed away on June 28, 2001, and had been a member of the Estevan Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion for 30 years. JOHNSON, William Quinton WWII William was born in 1922. He enlisted with the RAF Wing #15 Squadron in June 1941 and was killed in action on May 23, 1943 in Doortmund, England, when on his 13th bomber raid, his Stirling was shot down over enemy territory. William is buried at the Doortmund Cemetery and has a geomemorial at Johnson Lake in northern Saskatchewan. JOHNSTON, Raymond John WWII Raymond was born in Alameda, Saskatchewan, on March 31, 1921. He joined the Army on January 9, 1942 under the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and served in Canada, England, France and Germany. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Ray was discharged on June 26, 1946, returning back to Alameda. He passed away in August 1983. JOHNSTON, Alfred Lawrence WWII Lawrence was born in Douglaston, Saskatchewan, on October 22, 1920. He joined the Air Force in June 1942 and served in England as an aircraft mechanic and was discharged in January 1946. Upon returning to Alameda, he bought a farm and married Marion Hume. Lawrence was a very active Alameda Legion member, being a handy man and received his Life Membership to The Legion. He passed away on May 28, 2009.
