The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 199 HUNTER, Lawrence Gordon WWII Lawrence was born at Ardath, Saskatchewan, on May 12, 1915 to William and Maude, and moved with his family in 1935 to the White Fox area. He worked in the shipyards at Vancouver in 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 as a mechanic and was discharged in 1945. In 1948, he started building houses with his brothers and had a construction business in 1962, NWL Hunter Construction. He married Mae and they raised two children. Lawrence passed away on March 12, 1989. HUNTER, Murray WWII Murray was born in Estonia, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1924 and grew up on a farm in the Mantario district. He enlisted in November 1942 in Saskatoon and went to Regina and took his basic training in Camp at Prince Albert and then sent to Camp Borden, Ontario, for advance training as a motor mechanic and instructing in tank driving and maintenance. In November 1943, he boarded the Aquatania and headed overseas and landed at South Ampton and was sent by rail to Aldershot to be retested and examined for further instruction on British Tanks. Murray was assigned to the 2nd Armoured Division-1st Hussars and crossed to Juno Beach and made his way up the coast line to Dieppe, knocking out German resistance units. In July 1944, the Germans scored a direct hit causing explosions and fire. Murray had burns to his hands and face and was in hospital for two weeks and then back overseas to re-enforcement camp. Murray came back to Canada on the Queen Elizabeth and was discharged in February 1946 in Regina. He was a member of the Ogema Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. HUNTER, William Ronald “Bill” WWII Bill was born at Ardath, Saskatchewan, on September 6, 1918. He moved with his family in 1935 to the White Fox area and joined the SLI in 1940 going overseas to Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Holland. He was discharged in 1945 and went in 1948 to join his brothers in the construction business. He married Genny and they raised three children. Bill passed away on April 5, 2004. HUNTER, Norman Alexander WWII Norman was born at Tisdale to William and Maude on November 8, 1922 and came with his family from Ardath to the White Fox area in 1935. Norman, with brothers Albert and Lawrence, worked in the shipyards at Vancouver in 1941. In 1942, he joined the PPCLI and transferred to SLI going overseas to Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Holland, and was discharged in 1945 doing various jobs and going with his brothers in 1948 to Vancouver in the construction business. He married Erna and they raised three children. Norman remains in Vancouver.
