The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 195 HOILAND, John Brock WWII John was born in 1923 and later moved to Rosetown and farmed west of Darcy. He enlisted in the RCNVR on December 6, 1943 as a stoker serving in Canada, the Atlantic and the North Sea on HMCS Stormont and was discharged on May 5, 1945 and went back to farming. In 1964, he married Shirley Stewart and purchased land from Elton McDonald west of Arborfield in the Ditton Park District and raised four children: Don, Heather, Robert and Kathleen. John and Shirley built a house in Arborfield in 1987 and belonged to the Arborfield Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary. John passed away in 1997 and Shirley lives in town. HOLLAND, Bert WWI & WWII Bert was in the British Army from 1914-1918 and came to Canada from England in 1921. Bert and Lil Beck met in Toronto and were married in August 1927, and moved to the homestead in the Pine Torch area in 1928 and raised a family of eight. Bert was in the Canadian Army from 1940-1945 and farmed until his death in 1956. HOLT, Frank WWII Frank was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on November 6, 1919. He joined the 8th New Brunswick Hussars on April 4, 1941 and was discharged on March 28, 1946 after serving in Canada, England, Germany, Holland, Italy and France. He was promoted to Corporal and L. Sergeant during enemy combat. He received the Holland Liberation Medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal (2005). He returned to Scott-National as a truck driver and retired in 1975. Frank passed away on October 22, 2006. He had been a member of the Lumsden Branch #234 of The Royal Canadian Legion for two years. HOLLIDAY, Joseph James WWII Joseph was born in Mission, British Columbia, in 1924. He joined the Navy in September 1941 and served until October 1945 on the Melsapena Training Ship, HMCS Quotsino-Minesweeper and HMCS Q-099 a Sub Chaser in the Pacific and Atlantic.
