The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 163 FRAZER, John Robert “Jack” WWII John was born in Walpole, Saskatchewan, on September 1, 1922. He enlisted in the #12 District Depot of the Active Canadian Army at Regina on July 4, 1942 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and was discharged on January 8, 1946 with the rank of Gunner. In March 1946, John became a member of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He married Dawna Tilley on July 21, 1951, and they moved to Calgary and became members of Branch #284 Chapelhow Legion and raised one son and one daughter. Jack passed away on May 29, 2008. FRUIN, Arthur Giles “Art” WWII Arthur was born in Gerald, Saskatchewan, on March 6, 1916. He took his schooling at Redpath School and worked in the Welwyn area in 1937 and 1939. After a short time in the 101st Battery of Moosomin, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and took Aero Engine Mechanic training and served until October 1945. In 1943, he married Verna Carefoot, and after the war, worked and operated a confectionery store. In 1952, he began to farm and continued until 1981. Art and Verna were both fond of sports and helped many community projects. Art received the Veterans’ Service Medal. He passed away in January 2007 and had been a member of the Welwyn Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 46 years. FUHR, Walter WWII Walter enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Corporal) Wireless Ground Operator on September 11, 1942 and served in Canada. He was discharged on October 18, 1945 and retired in Saskatoon and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. FUHR, Harold WWII Harold was born in Langenburg. He joined #78 Squadron RAF Navigator and trained in Canada for the flying officer service and was posted to a Lancaster Bomber Squadron. He was shot down on his 10th operational flight over France on the night of June 22-23, 1944. He is buried in a military cemetery in the commune of Quinquepark, Olse, France.
