The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 161 FORD, Harvey Thomas WWII Harvey was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatoon in August 1942 and enrolled in the technical training school for a course in aero mechanic engineering. In 1943, he went to St. Thomas, Ontario, for further training and left for England in June 1944, at which time he joined the 418th Edmonton Squadron and worked on Lancaster Bombers and Mosquito airplane motors. In September 1945, he returned to Canada and was discharged in Regina. Harvey was a Life Member of the Kinistino Branch #129 of The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away in 2006. FORSYTH, James Henderson WWII James was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan, in 1919. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1941 to 1945 joining a special parachute unit that trained at Helena, Montana. During one of his training jumps he suffered an injury that prevented him from remaining with the unit. He then joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Regina where he became a physical training instructor and was sent to England taking part in the invasion of Normandy as a front line soldier and led many reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines to gain tactical information. Jim also took part in operations in France, Holland and Germany and was wounded twice - once in Falaise, France, and again in Germany during the last days of the war. He returned to Canada in August 1945 and received his discharge with the rank of Sergeant. After spending two years working in Toronto, he returned to the Kinistino area, where he farmed until his death in May 2002. He was a member of the Kinistino Branch #129 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 40 years. FOWLIE, Joseph WWI Joseph was born in Scotland in 1890 and came to Canada in 1908. He enlisted with the Fort Garry Horse from 1914-18. He married Elizabeth and filed for a homestead in the Megan District, five miles east of Arborfield, and later acquired another quarter of land. Their four children attended Megan School and then Hillsworth. They retired to Arborfield in 1950. Elizabeth passed away in 1961 and Joseph in 1970. FORSYTH, Lorna Gavin WWII Lorna was born on September 12, 1921 in Saskatchewan. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 12, 1942 and was discharged on July 3, 1946. She served in Canada at clothing stores at Rockcliffe Air Force Base, Ontario, Trenton, Ontario, and Victoria Island. She volunteered at Rockcliffe Hospital; helping the blind, writing and reading letters, and taking Veterans in wheelchairs for ‘walks.’
