The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 143 EARL, Kenneth WWII Kenneth was born in North Portal, Saskatchewan, in 1922. He joined the Canadian Army on March 8, 1941 at age 19 and served with the 14th Battery 4th Canadian Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was in Germany on VE Day and was discharged in December 1945. Kenneth passed away in 1984 at Cochrane, Alberta. EARL, Lawrence WWII Lawrence was born in North Portal, Saskatchewan, in 1920. He joined the Canadian Army on March 8, 1941, at age 22. He served with the Royal Artillery, 4th Canadian Field Regiment, and with the 21st Army Corps Canadian Section under General Montgomery in England, France, Belgium and Germany and was discharged on January 10, 1945. He was a customs officer at North Portal after the war and then transferred to Winnipeg as a customs appraiser. Lawrence passed away in 1994 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. EGELAND, Severt WWII Severt was born in Saskatchewan Landing in 1920. He joined the Army in 1940 and served as an artillery soldier in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He and his dad spoke Norwegian, so Severt was used at times as an interpreter. He was discharged in 1945 and received the War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence of Britain Medal, the France/Germany Star and the 1939-45 Star. He passed away in 1983 and had been a member of Branch #56 of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty years. EDDY, Donald Walter WWII Donald was born in Bethune, Saskatchewan, on August 9, 1912. He joined the Air Force and spent most of his time with the radar unit serving in India and acquired malaria while there. After his discharge in 1945, he went farming. Donald had a stroke eight years ago and can’t speak and took another stroke two years ago and now can’t walk but uses a scooter. He has been a Life Member of the Bethune Branch #304 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 25 years.
