The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 131 DEWITT, James G. “Goldy” WWII James was born on September 26, 1920 at Gilbert Plain, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army on July 6, 1940 at Winnipeg and served with the 3rd Field Ambulance (RCAMC), Canadian Provost Corps and the Army Service Corps (RCASC) in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Northwest Europe and left the service on February 16, 1946 as a Warrant Officer. Married with one son and one daughter, he served from 1948 to 1969 in the reserve army with the 21st Field Squadron Engineers (RCE). DEY, John Alexander WWII John was born in Carberry, Manitoba, in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and trained as an air gunner in McDonald, Manitoba, and went to England in 1943 and was attached to RAF sent to Lossiemouth, Scotland, for advanced training and at the end of three months, he was sent to North Africa with a crew on a Wellington Bomber and went across North Africa by truck and ship and ended in Cairo and in “Digri” Bengal with 159 Squadron and did 301 hours of operations over Burma against the Japanese. Some of the targets were bombed and some mine laying. He was shot badly over Rangoon on April 1, 1944 and flew back to Alipegre, India and crashed outside Calcutta and was hospitalized for a week and returned to duty. He left Bombay in 1945 and returned to England and then Canada and was discharged in June 1945. He received the Operational Wings 1943 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Ribbon and Maple Leaf. He has been a member of Swift Current Branch #56 for 24 years. DINIUS, John Joseph KOREA John was born near Forward, RM of Broken Shell, Saskatchewan, on February 13, 1933 and qualified as a Saskatchewan Smoke Jumper in 1951. In July of that year, he joined the PPCLI and trained in Wainwright, Alberta, and went to Korea in 1951 with the 3rd Battalion and to Germany in 1955 with the 1st Battalion Regiment. In 1958, he transferred to the Canadian Intelligence Corps. He also served in Cyprus and Kashmir, India and Pakistan and visited Syria and Afghanistan during these tours. He also served as an exchange instructor with the US Army during the Vietnam War and served also in Ottawa, Camp Borden, Petawawa and Calgary. Prior to his retirement in 1978, John was deputy operations officer at CFB Moose Jaw. He and his wife now live on their Veterans’ Land Act farm north of Paddockwood, Saskatchewan. He received the Canadian Decoration and Clasp. DIGNEY, Leonard WWII Leonard was born in Semans, Saskatchewan, in 1914. He joined the Army and served in Canada. He has been a member of Branches #171 Raymore and Semans #108 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 59 years.
