The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 69 CHORNEYKO, Athanazie WWII Athanazie was born at Arran on February 25, 1918. He graduated grade XII in 1936 at Arran School. He joined the Army in 1941. He was discharged from Army at Brandon Nov 1941. He enlisted in Air Force trained as pilot and rear gunner. He left Halifax in January of 1943 for England & further training as rear gunner. Athanazie died October 22, 1943 and is buried at Schoonselhof, Antwerp Belgium. He was the son of Elias & Alexandra Chorneyko of Arran. CLARK, Roy G. WWII Roy was born on July 15, 1916 in Goshen, SK. He married Julia on April 24, 1941. In November of 1941 he was enlisted and sent to St. Jerome, Quebec then to Petawa, ON. In July of 1943 he went overseas to Italy and was there for about 2 years, then onto Holland in 1945. He returned to Canada in January of 1946 and was discharged shortly after that. Roy has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 58 years. COLBORN, Kenneth Korea Kenneth was born on May 15, 1931 in Wawota, SK. He joined the Army in November of 1951 and was sent to the R.C.E. base in Chilliwack. He went to Korea in July of 1952 to 3 troop 23rd Field Squadron. He returned to Canada in July of 1953 and enrolled in a heavy equipment operatorʼs course and was stationed in Churchill, MB helping build roads and a rocketlaunching base. At the end of his term with the Army he returned to the Wawota area and farmed for the next forty years. Kenneth has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wawota Branch #113 for 46 years. COBURN (HOWSHIP), Winnifred WWII Winnifred enlisted with the Canadian Womenʼs Army Corps in Regina on October 26, 1942. She trained in Vermillion Alberta and was sent to Nanaimo B.C. She transferred to Vancouver on January 9, 1945 and was discharged on October 3, 1945 in Vancouver. In both offices (Nanaimo & Vancouver) she did the incoming and outgoing mail and wrote short notes in a ledger of contents in letters.
