The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 353 WENSEL, William “Bill” WWII Bill was enlisted with the Army on September 8, 1939. The regiment was mobilized in September of 1939 by the late Lt. Col. W. G. Stillman shortly after the outbreak of WWII. The famed regiment has the distinction of being the only Alberta Infantry Unit included in the First Canadian Division. In December of 1939, 1000 troops were sent to Halifax where they boarded the Polish Liner-Battery for the crossing to Scotland. Bill was discharged on April 20, 1945. WENTZELL, Glenn Cowling WWII Glenn was born on Dec. 4, 1912. He enlisted in 1940 in the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Weyburn and received training there and at Shiloh, Manitoba. He received his orders to ship to England and on Dec. 26,1940, he arrived in England. After more training there he was a participant in the Dieppe Raid, landing near the village of Pourville. After the Dieppe Raid, Glenn remustered into the Saskatoon Light Infantry. He was a bren gun carrier driver and saw duty in North Africa and Italy. Glenn passed away on April 20, 1987. WESTBURY, Earl WWII Earl was born in 1926 in Beverly, SK. He enlisted with the Army and served in Infantry in Canada during the war. Earl has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Ogden Branch #154 for 35 years. WESTBURY, Allan J. WWII & Peacetime Allan was born in 1924 in Swift Current, SK. He started out as Trooper in C Squadron, 9th Armored Regiment, CACMF. He joined the Military on March 3, 1943 and was in Italy by February 1, 1945. He transferred to the 3rd Division Transport Company, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on September 15, 1944. He served as GNR OPC in Occupation Army for 1 year in Oldenburg, Germany. Allan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #275 for 35 years.
