The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 351 WEHAGE, Walter G. WWII Walter was born on December 17, 1923 in the Fulda area of SK. He enlisted with the Army on April 4, 1942. He was shipped overseas in June of 1943 with the Winnipeg Rifles 3rd Division, 7th Brigade, to England, then to Normandy in June of 1944. He was wounded at Carpiquet while overtaking an airfield outside the city of Caen on July 4, 1944. In September he went to Holland and then to Germany. He was discharged in February of 1946. Walter was awarded the Defense Medal, France Medal, Germany Star, Holland Medal and a War Medal. WEIR, Douglas Hugh WWII Douglas was born on January 12, 1921 in Briercrest, SK. He attended the University of Saskatchewan where he got his B.A. degree in 1940, at the age of 19. He enlisted that year with the 60-78th Battery at Indian Head and went to England in the fall of 1941. In October of 1943 he went to Italy where he was wounded in battle. Douglas was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. WELFORD, William H. WWII William was born in 1922 in Lilac, SK. He enlisted with the Army in 1942 in Regina. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom and returned home to his farm in Lilac on February 2, 1946. He married in 1949 and remained on his farm. William passed away in 1988. WEISGERBER, Constantine Daniel WWII Con was born on September 6, 1919 on the family farm in SK. He joined the army on October 31, 1941 in Regina, SK. He arrived in Europe on March 5, 1945. At the warʼs end he remained with his regiment in the Netherlands to assist rebuilding. In 1946 he received a “Souvenir Medal” from the community of Ede, Holland for aiding in erecting the works of public utility there. He was discharged on February 1, 1946. In 2003, he received a medal from the Dutch Government for his work almost 60 years earlier. Con passed away on December 27, 2004.
