The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 347 WARNE, Bennett V. WWII Bennett was born at Driscoll, North Dakota and moved with his family to Pelly in 1926 and then to Winnipeg in 1938. He is the son of Ole and Amy Warne. He joined the Queenʼs Own Cameron Highlanders of Pelly. He was killed in action on August 19, 1942 at Dieppe and is commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial near London, England, for soldiers who died in raids with no known grave. Memorial: Warne Lake, southeast of Swan River, MB. WASTELL, Alfred E. WWI Alfred was born in 1882 in England. He enlisted with the Army in 1915 and served with the First Canadian Contingent in England, Germany and France. He was wounded in 1917 in which he lost his hearing permanently. He was a faithful member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tompkins Branch from the time it formed. He attended Legion Conventions as a Delegate all of his life. Alfred passed away in 1976. WATLAND, Margaret WWII Margaret joined the Canadian Womenʼs Army Corp and was stationed in Ottawa for the duration of the war. WATERMAN, William “Bill” WWII Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in December 1940. He spent three years overseas and was discharged in October 1945.
