The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 339 VALLEY, Frederick John WWII Frederick was born on December 5, 1913 in Sintaluta, SK. His basic training with the Canadian Armed Forces took place at Camp Petawawa, ON; from there he was sent overseas to England. He met his “Lancaster Lass” Dora Hosker at a dance. They were married on April 22, 1943 in Lancaster, England. Their daughter Virginia was born on April 12, 1944 while Fred was away in service. In recognition of his service to his country, he was awarded the Voluntary Service Medal, The Defense Medal, The Italy Star, and the France and Germany Star. Fred passed away on September 27, 1971. VAWTER, Earl Leroy WWII Earl was born in 1918 in Allan, SK. In 1942 he left the family farm with aspirations of becoming a pilot in the RCAF. He became a Flying Officer and completed many successful missions as a Bomb-aimer. On June 17, 1944, his 425 Alouette Squadron was attacked while over France and the pilot was killed. Earl pulled the plane out of a dive and flew the bomber back to England. For his bravery he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also received the following: Air Bomberʼs Badge, CVSM and Maple Leaf, 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 War Medal and the Defense Medal. VOGEL, Edward WWII Edward was born in 1922. He joined the Armed Forces in 1941 in Regina. He was stationed in Vancouver, B.C. for 2 years and spent his 3rd year of the Armed Forces in the hospital. He was discharged in 1944 and returned to Pelly and took up farming. Edward passed away in 1992. VEREENOOGHE, Raymond WWII Raymond joined the Army in 1940.
