The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 329 THACYK (MITCHELL), Doreen Marie WWII Doreen was born on May 21, 1920 in Hull, England. She served in the British Air Force with the rank of LACW, and served in the WAAF as a cook. While stationed at Leeming Air Force Base, she met Joe Thacyk of Lanigan, SK. They married on St. Patrickʼs Day in 1945 at St. Augustine Church in England. She was discharged from the BAF in late 1945 and the war bride set sail for Canada on her first wedding anniversary. She was a member of The RCL for seven years and was also a member of the Ladiesʼ Auxiliary. Doreen passed away on August 26, 1998. THACYK, Joseph Arthur WWII Joseph was born on March 26, 1920 in Lanigan, SK. He enlisted with the R.C.A.F. in 1941. After training in Canada, he was posted overseas to the UK in February of 1942, serving at various bases. He met and married Doreen Mitchell at Leeming Air Force Base. He was honourably discharged on October 18, 1945 with the rank of corporal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Watson Branch #272 for over 30 years (Life Member), serving one term as branch president. After celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary and 75th birthday in 1995, Joe passed away on April 3, 1995. THOMPSON, Harold Andrew WWII Harold was born in 1919 in Hearne, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and took his basic training aboard the HMCS Unicorn in 1941. He took his basic sea training aboard the HMCS Naden. He served aboard the HMCS Caribou and the HMCS Timmins until the commissioning of the HMCS Petrolia in 1944. He spent the rest of WWII aboard the HMCS Petrolia on North Atlantic Escort. He achieved the rank of P.O. and was acting C.P.O. at the time of his discharge in 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Snowden Branch #205 for 52 years. Harold passed away in 2000. THOMAS, Wilma WWII Wilma joined the Navy in 1942 and served in Naval bases across Canada. She was discharged in 1945.
